Wondering How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Photography Session? Here are 3 Easy Tips.
If you have scheduled a boudoir photography session, you may be curious about how to get ready for it. To help you feel comfortable and ready, we make sure to inform all our clients of a few crucial things to know before their boudoir photoshoot. We provide detailed information to ensure that you arrive feeling calm and well-prepared.
Tip 1: Have your hair washed
During your boudoir photoshoot, you will have the luxury of a professional hair and makeup artist who will enhance your natural beauty. To ensure your hair looks perfect and stays in place during the shoot, it’s important to have clean hair that’s not overly clean. While everyone’s hair is unique, it’s generally not advisable to show up with freshly washed hair on the day of your shoot, as this can cause fluffiness and make styling difficult. If you typically wash your hair frequently, it’s recommended to wash it the day before your shoot. However, if you can go several days without washing your hair, aim to wash it 2-3 days before your photo shoot for the best results.
Tip 2: Lingerie
For your boudoir shoot, we suggest bringing 4-6 different outfits to have options that work well with our sets and photograph beautifully. During your hair and makeup styling session, your photographer will discuss each outfit with you and choose which ones work best. We recommend including at least two bodysuits, as they are universally flattering and look stunning in boudoir photography. For lingerie, we suggest bringing pieces in black, white/cream, pastels, or jewel tones as they photograph well. If you prefer black-and-white photography, aim for more black-and-white pieces. We suggest avoiding neon colours and shiny fabrics as they don’t photograph well. We provide some robes and white collared shirts but feel free to bring your own or a shirt belonging to your partner. Once you book your shoot, we’ll send you detailed information and tips to help you prepare.
Tip 3: Nails
When it comes to boudoir photography, taking care of your hands and nails is essential as they will be featured in many of your photos. We highly recommend getting a manicure and pedicure in soft, neutral colours that complement your outfits. To prevent chipping, it’s best to schedule your appointment the day before the shoot unless you opt for acrylic or shellac nails.
To ensure you have the energy for the shoot, it’s important to eat a good breakfast the morning of the session. You’ll be moving and holding poses, so you’ll need sustenance. In the week leading up to the shoot, aim to drink 2 litres of water a day to keep your skin looking healthy and glowing. To avoid bloating, avoid consuming processed, salty, and high-sugar foods.
